history

Detail: the year 1838 and the beehive symbol on the monument to Quintus-Icilius in Bad Fallingbostel

On July 1, 1838, the “Sparkasse der Amtsvogtei Fallingbostel Soltau” was founded in Fallingbostel under the governor Heinrich von Quintus-Icilius . The aim at that time was to get the smaller employees and servants to store their money, i.e. to save. The Sparkasse Fallingbostel-Soltau was one of the first houses in the duchy . Another goal was to use the money stored by the employees to set up an aid fund for the poor and needy, such as orphans and widows . In addition, it was now possible for the peasants, who were mostly dependent on their liege lords , to take advantage of low-interest loans and thus buy themselves free from the nobility . Thus they became free landlords.

In 1857, the city of Walsrode and the ancillary investment association of the former courts of Cordingen and Stellichte joined the Sparkasse's guarantee association, after the city of Soltau and the Rethem office had already expressed an interest in participating in 1839. In order to be able to participate in the Sparkasse's assets, the new guarantors each paid 12,660.47 marks into the Sparkasse's reserve funds.

On January 1, 1902, the parish of Soltau left the association in order to found its own savings bank. The deposits were paid out on a pro rata basis.

After the First World War and strongly weakened by inflation, the Sparkasse zu Fallingbostel, the Stadtsparkasse Rethem and the Kreissparkasse, founded in 1909, finally merged in 1934 and thus obeyed Prussian legislation. The new and only savings bank in the district was henceforth called "Kreissparkasse Fallingbostel zu Walsrode" and had 23 branches.

After the end of the Second World War, the Sparkasse was able to resume its usual business under a new management board. In 1948 the monetary system was reformed with the introduction of the Deutsche Mark in a ratio of 100: 10 or 100: 6.5 (Reichsmark: DM). The total of the final balance of the Kreissparkasse shrank from 132.2 million Reichsmarks to 8.6 million DM.

At the beginning of the 1950s, two large companies established themselves in the business area, Wolff (now Dow Wolff) and KRAFT, which stabilized the labor market again. Savings deposits rose and the loan volume also expanded. As a result, not only did the staff, but also the space requirement grow. In 1961 the Walsrode branch was expanded by an extension. In the following years, the Sparkasse in Rethem moved into the building on Amtshauptmann-Jordan-Platz and a new branch was opened in Fallingbostel.

In 1968 the first EDP system started and processed data using the punch card method. In 1970 there were 13,000 booking items to be processed daily, in 1987 there were already 26,000 and in 2007 more than 37,000 bookings were made per day at the service points, the ATMs, the self-service terminals and in the payment transaction department as well as by account holders via online banking.
