The Kuhbach is a 5 km long brook in the Hohenlohekreis in northern Baden-Württemberg , which flows approximately west of the Weckhof in the city of Künzelsau from the right into the central copper .

geography

course

The Kuhbach arises in the hamlet of Kubach (!) In the municipality of Kupferzell at about 366  m above sea level. NHN under trees on an access road to an agricultural property. After less than a hundred meters, it runs under the district road K 2373 on the western edge of the hamlet and moves on the other side in the ditch of a developed dirt road west-northwest. After he has passed the other side of the path across from the forest island of Förstle , he is only accompanied by a grass path between the fields. From the northern edge of the Kuhbachhölzchen , a second, noticeably shorter upper course, also named Kuhbach, flows through a field in a narrow strip of grass. After this tributary, the Kuhbach turns to the west, takes another ditch from the north through a small meadow basin from the edge of the forest island Zängle on the southeast edge of the Künzelsau village of Gaisbach and then crosses one after the other under the old and the new route of the federal road 19 Schwäbisch Hall - Künzelsau only about 200 meters south of the outskirts of Gaisbach.

After passing the Gaisbach sewage treatment plant, another, inconsistent ditch inflow from the north flows along a short section of its access road, which is created on the western edge of the industrial development of Gaisbach. After crossing the creek of the connecting path from the Gaisbacher Weiler Unterhof right on the slope to the Kupferzeller Weiler Rechbach in the southwest begins at a little over 335  m above sea level. NHN after the previous partly ditch, partly straightened and in any case with little vegetation run, a new type of run section on which the Kuhbach meanders westward, accompanied by a construction gallery, initially between two fields, then about a hundred meters later along the northern edge of the Kuhbachhölzles . Two short watercourses flow out of the forest, the end of which is opposite from the northeast, the Gaggstattgraben, which, like the Kuhbach, has a formed valley as its first inlet.

The Kuhbach now flows in a steadily deepening and ever wider limestone blade that is filled with forest, with small changes in direction, all in all about west-southwest. To the north of the Künzelsauer Weckhof it takes up the Pfaffengraben from Kemmeten, which itself ultimately also runs through a small forest ravine, and then another and smaller stream, also from the right side, over whose edge a red cross-marked hiking trail from Neuenstein- Neufels enters the valley and then leaves again over a small footbridge to the Weckhof. Half a kilometer further down, the Kuhbach, which has long been flowing in a stony bed and over rock slabs, flows from the right and at about 292  m above sea level. NHN next to a small river barn in the middle copper .

The 5.5 km long Kuhbach flows about 74 meters below its origin, its mean bottom slope is about 13 ‰.

Catchment area

The Kuhbach has a catchment area of 7.4 km², which the creek runs through in an arc that is slightly to the right, roughly westwards. The Kuhbach flows noticeably closer to the left than on the right boundary of its catchment area, the natural area considered mainly in the subspace copper Zeller level and Kocheneck the natural environment Hohenloher and Haller level is and only very mündungsnah then in the subspace ear forest Riedel of the Kocher-Jagst levels . Being at about 395  m above sea level. NHN's highest point is at its northernmost point at the sports field west of the complicated trefoil intersection of the B 19 before it descends through the blade of the Kemmeter Bach into the valley of the Kocher .

Initially this Kemmeter Bach, then its immediate receiving water Künsbach , and finally its left upper course Herrenbach compete beyond the northeastern watershed from this highest point to a little east of the source location Kubach . At this eastern point the southern and left watershed connects, behind which the Lietenbach for a short time , then the Rechbach for a long time, takes the drain to the other side, then a third, small and anonymous Klingenbach to the copper and finally this itself. Behind the north-eastern watershed from the mouth to the highest point again, the brook flow one after the other through the Waschklinge , then the Zimmerbach down the Kuhbach to the copper, and finally in the north near the Kocher tributary Forellenbach .

On the undulating plateau, which is characterized by the shell limestone in the subsoil, to which the catchment area of the Kuhbach belongs, the Lettenkeuper ( Erfurt formation ) stands on the uppermost part of the area . This is due to the loess sediment on the higher hills due to Quaternary deposits , which offers fertile arable soils. The Kuhbach rises in the transition area of such an island to the Lettenkeuper, in which it then remains for the first half of its course until it first touches the Kuhbachholz a little southwest of Unterhof. There the brook bottom reaches the Upper Muschelkalk , in which the Kuhbach digs one of the typical wooded Muschelkalk blades up to the mouth in the same layer . Its two last right tributaries have also dug smaller ravines like this.

Outside the valley and valley slope forest and three small forest islands to the right of the upper course, the open field is mostly plowed. The vast majority of the catchment area is in the district of Gaisbach von Künzelsau , from which the village of Gaisbach itself largely drains , the hamlets of Haag and Weckhof to some extent, the hamlets of Kemmeten , Oberhof , Unterhof and the Schnaihof farmstead entirely to the Kuhbach. The largest town is Gaisbach, which has been expanding strongly industrially on the southern and western fringes since the second half of the 20th century, while the other towns are still dominated by agriculture. The same applies to the hamlet of Kubach at the source of the stream, which, like part of the upper catchment area, belongs to the municipality of Kupferzell . Only very small, completely unpopulated marginal gussets of the catchment area belong in the north to the demarcation of the central Künzelsau itself or near the mouth of the Neureut district demarcation of Neuenstein . Noticeably less than 2000 inhabitants live in the area.
