The Kulm is 481.9  m above sea level. NHN high mountain near Saalfeld in Thuringia . It lies east of the Saale valley on the western tip of the "Saale knee" and is the local mountain of the cities of Saalfeld and Rudolstadt . From the Kulm you have a panoramic view of the Saale and Rinne valleys , the Orlasenke , the Thuringian slate mountains and the Ilm-Saale-Platte . The villages of Schloßkulm and Dorfkulm , which belong to the municipality of Uhlstädt-Kirchhasel and Unterwellenborn , are located near the Kulm .

Towers

The observation tower on the Kulm, the 20 meter high Kulmturm, is one of the oldest steel lattice towers in Germany. The listed tower was built in 1884 by Queen Marienhütte . After extensive renovation, the 18 meter high viewing platform , which is exactly 500  m above sea level , has been open since 2012 . Above sea level, must be climbed again.

The transmission tower on the Kulm, a 78.8 meter high, free-standing steel lattice tower, was built in 1974. DVB-T has been broadcasting since July 1, 2008.
