Kurt König (born January 13, 1954 ) is a German entrepreneur and former racing car driver .

Career

König began his career in mountain races and drove in the VW Golf Cup for a number of years. In 1978 he was the best two-liter driver in the European Touring Car Championship.

In 1978 he moved to the German racing championship, in which he finished 34th in the overall ranking. He stayed in this series until 1982. His greatest success was eleventh place in the overall standings in the 1981 season. In 1981 he was runner-up in the German Racing Trophy.

Occasionally he competed in the FIA ​​World Endurance Championship in 1982, 1984 and 1985. In 1981 he and Peter Oberndorfer clinched class victory in the GT class with a BMW M1 at the 1000 km race on the Nürburgring.

From 1984 he competed as a private driver with a BMW 635 and later with a BMW M3 in the DTM, which was called the German Production Car Championship until 1985. In this series he stayed at the start from 1992 to 1993. When BMW withdrew from this series, he also withdrew from the DTM. His greatest success was the 3rd place in the overall standings in the 1986 season, in which he also achieved his only victory in this series.

In 1987 he took part in a round of the World Touring Car Championship. After the 1993 season he ended his active career.
