Kurt Scheibner

Kurt Scheibner (born March 18, 1926 - † April 8, 2018 ) was a German athletics trainer . From 1963 to 1972 he was the national coach for the shot put and discus throw .

Life

Scheibner studied at the German University for Physical Culture (DHfK) in Leipzig in the 1950s . As an active track and field athlete, he was third in the GDR championships over the 1,500 meter distance as a runner from Empor Leipzig-Lindenau in 1953 . In the German Democratic Republic he was the trainer of Manfred Grieser , who advanced to the top of the world under Scheibner at the end of the 1950s. In 1959 Scheibner moved to the Federal Republic of Germany . He worked as a university lecturer at the Institute for Sport and Sport Science at the Albert Ludwig University of Freiburg . Sigrun Grabert was one of his first protégés in Germany . Grabert's later husband Hansjörg Kofink learned to train with Scheibner.

On October 1, 1963, Scheibner became national trainer for the shot put and discus throwing disciplines at the German Athletics Association (DLV). The athletes he looked after included Jens Reimers, Hein-Direck Neu , Dirk Wippermann , Klaus-Peter Henning , Alwin Wagner , Ferdinand Schladen and Josef Klik . After the West German discus throwers at the 1972 Summer Olympics in Munich did not meet the association's expectations, Scheibner and the DLV separated at the end of 72.
