LMG 150-DE refers to a type of double-ended ferry . Four units of the type of ship designed by the Norwegian marine architecture firm LMG Marin were built for the Estonian shipping company TS Laevad.

history

Four units of this type of ship were built for the TS Laevad shipping company between 2015 and 2017. Two of the ferries ordered in October 2014 were built at the Gdańska Stocznia “Remontowa” shipyard in Gdansk , the other two at the Sefine Shipyard in Altınova . The construction costs totaled 120 million euros. The ship was designed by LMG Marin in Bergen .

The ships operate across Moonsund and connect Virtsu and Kuivastu on the island of Muhu and Rohuküla and Heltermaa on the island of Hiiumaa .

description

The ships are powered by diesel-electric technology . Four diesel generator sets are available for power generation. Two of the generators are of MTU - diesel engines (type: 16V4000M23 ) each with 1440  kW power driven, the other two generators of MTU diesel engines (type: 12V4000M33) kW each 1260 power. The drive motors are two electric motors, each with an output of 2150 kW, each of which drives a propeller pod at both ends of the ships.

The ships have a continuous vehicle deck with visors that can be folded up at both ends. A total of six lanes are available on the vehicle decks. The two side lanes are each covered by an additional deck with another lane. These are accessible via fixed ramps at both ends. The vehicle deck is built over in the middle area by the deck superstructures. The usable height on the four continuous lanes is 5 meters, the maximum axle load is 13 t. The usable height on the two side vehicle decks is 2.5 meters, the maximum axle load 1.3 t.

There are three more decks above the vehicle decks. The passenger facilities are located on the deck above the vehicle deck. Among other things, there are lounge areas with seating for passengers, a self-service restaurant and a kiosk. The galley is also located on this deck . On the deck above there are the facilities for the ship's crew with cabins, the mess and lounges as well as a sauna. The wheelhouse is set up on the top deck . Outside areas are available for passengers on two decks, with seating on the upper sundeck. The engine room , engine control room and other technical operating rooms are located below the vehicle deck .

The hull of the ships is reinforced with ice ( ice class 1A).

The Tõll was equipped with a hybrid drive system in winter 2019/2020 . For this purpose, batteries were retrofitted as energy storage devices while the ferry was in operation . The aim is to reduce fuel consumption and thus CO 2 emissions.

The ships are named after characters from Estonian mythology . The Tõll and the Piret are named after Suur Tõll and his wife Piret, who, according to legend, lived on the island of Saaremaa . The namesake for the Leiger and the Tiiu are Leiger, the brother of Tõll, and his wife Tiiu, who, according to legend, lived on the neighboring island of Hiiumaa .
