A legend reports that the Castilian King Sancho IV (r. 1284–1295) found an image of Mary in a gorse bush during a hunt; In any case, he donated the building of a collegiate church and exempted the residents of the place from taxes and duties in 1290. Attractions
The collegiate church of Santa María la Real , built from precisely hewn stones and raised by a transverse bell gable added in the Baroque period , is a single-nave Gothic building from the late 13th century with a remarkable portal with a figurative tympanum field . This is protected by a porch with lateral garment figures, so that remains of paint have been preserved, and shows scenes from the childhood of Jesus on the lower level, who appears in the upper field as a judge of the world. Further figures from the early 13th century can be seen inside the church.
