The ВАЗ-2122 "Река" , German transcription WAS 2122 "Reka" , also known as River of Russian Река to German river called, is an amphibious vehicle of the car manufacturer AvtoVAZ , which in the 1970s based on the Niwas was developed . The car was intended as an army vehicle and although it was developed until it was ready for series production, no series production took place. The WAS-2122 project was discontinued in 1987.

A floatable military vehicle based on the WAS-2121 Niwa was to be developed under the project name Reka . The first prototypes were ready to drive in 1976 and have been extensively tested. It turned out that the vehicle mass was too large, so that from 1978 the car was designed more compact and lighter. A 1.3 liter engine should be used as the engine. The first near-series version was completed in 1983 and is called the 400 series; according to the old scheme, the name should actually have been WAS-4E2122 . The 500 series followed in 1985 , ten of which were built. Some of these vehicles were handed over to the Soviet Army for testing. In 1987 three vehicles from the 600 series followed . It would have been suitable for series production. However, the WAS-2122 project was discontinued due to a lack of funding. A total of 22 prototypes were created.
