Lake Jackson is a city in the US state of Texas . It is located about 80 km south of Houston on the Gulf of Mexico in Brazoria County .
The city was named after a lake of the same name on the outskirts of the city. The lake itself got its name from a family who ran a plantation there before the Civil War .

According to the 2000 census, 7,344 families live in the city. The population density is 535 / km². 86.2% of the population are white, 3.9% black, 0.4% Indian and 2.5% Asian; 14.7% are Hispancis and Latinos , 0.02% are from the Pacific Islands, and 1.8% are of two or more races.
There are 9 588 households in the city. Children under the age of 18 live in 42.6% of households, 64.7% married couples, 8.5% single mothers and 20.0% singles. The median household size is 2.74 people, the median family size 3.18. The median age is 34 years. For every 100 female people over the age of 18 there are 95.4 men and boys.
The median household income is $ 60,901 and the median family income is $ 69,053. 6.4% of the population live below the poverty line .
history
The town developed from a new residential area set up for the Dow Chemical Company in the early 1940s . The city received municipal rights on March 14, 1944 .
Culture, economy
There are more than 30 Christian churches and religious communities in the city (as of 2006). The schools in Lake Jackson are part of the Brazosport Independent School District . The city itself has six schools. The number of banks and bank branches is around 20.
