The Monte Ceneri transmitter was on the medium wave frequency 558 kHz with a transmitter power of 300 kW operated regional broadcasting for the Italian part of Switzerland . He broadcast the Voice of Russia program until the end of 2012 .
history
Between 1933 and 1979 he was above the pass height of the Monte Ceneri at 714 121 / 110970 and used as a transmitting antenna, according to information of the Swisscom 135 meters (initially 120 meters) high, to ground isolated freestanding transmission tower. This tower still exists today and carries transmission antennas for DAB and DVB-T.
In 1978 for the Monte Ceneri transmitter north of Isone at 719.91 thousand / 110871 built, was being built as the main antenna, 245 meters high, insulated against ground guyed lattice steel mast. As a reserve antenna, the system was given a T-antenna , which is stretched between two guyed tubular steel masts. In the lower part of the transmission mast there is a room clad with sheet metal that houses an elevator machine. Although the location was no longer on the Monte Ceneri Pass since 1979, the old name has been retained to this day.
On June 30th, 2008 the broadcasting of the national broadcaster Monte Ceneri was stopped by the Radiotelevisione Svizzera .
Since the former frequency of the national broadcaster Monte Ceneri was also used by a station in southern Italy, Italian-language programs could still be heard through the voice of Russia until broadcasting operations were resumed on the Monte Ceneri station.
On February 9, 2011, the Federal Office of Communication announced that the Russian foreign service Voice of Russia may broadcast its program via the medium-wave transmitter Monte Ceneri. For this purpose, a license to use the facility was granted until the end of 2015.
On October 30, 2012, the Voice of Russia announced that it would end its broadcasts from Monte Ceneri on December 31, 2012. The shutdown followed as planned at midnight.
The national broadcaster Monte Ceneri has been closed since August 2013; According to the original plan, the 220-meter-high transmission mast was to remain in place until September 2014, as it was used as a carrier for measuring devices for an intended use of wind power on the current transmitter site.
The dismantling of the mast finally began in July 2016 and was completed by the end of 2016.
The transmission mast of the national transmitter Monte Ceneri was rare as a guyed transmission mast in Switzerland, as free-standing towers are used at all other locations.
