The Monte Ceneri radio tower is a free-standing steel lattice tower above the Monte Ceneri pass in the Rivera area in the municipality of Monteceneri in the canton of Ticino . The radio tower, which was initially isolated from the ground, was built in 1933 at a height of 120 meters and served as a national transmitter for Italian-speaking Switzerland. In 1978 a new guyed mast was erected for the medium wave transmitter. It kept the old name Landessender Monte Ceneri , although it is east of the old location. The Monte Ceneri radio tower, however, continued to serve as the basic network transmitter for television. Later the mast was raised to a height of 135 meters. Today there is a barracks in the area of the transmitter mast.

The Monte Ceneri radio tower is a cultural asset of national importance in the canton of Ticino .
