The Landscape Park Rudow-Altglienicke is a landscape park opened to the public in 2009 , which connects the two Berlin districts of Rudow in the Neukölln district (formerly: West Berlin ) and Altglienicke in the Treptow-Köpenick district (formerly: East Berlin ). It is a compensatory measure for the construction of the federal motorway 113 .

location

View over the pastures on the Massantepfuhl

The park extends essentially along the federal motorway, which was built in this area as a trough structure with two tunnels of 300 and 900 meters in length. The tunnel ceilings were greened and incorporated into the park. This created an area of around 64  hectares , which is bordered in the north by Neudecker Weg and Rudower Straße . Wegedornstrasse and Schönefelder Chaussee run east of the area , while Friedenstrasse is the southern end. In the western area, several streets run partly towards the park, including Lettberger Straße , Ostburger Weg , and the streets Am Espenpfuhl and Am Klarpfuhl .

The Teltower Dörferweg, one of the 20 main green paths, runs through the park and - thanks to its special location - a 2.1-kilometer section of the Berlin Wall Path .

history

After German reunification , extensive re-planning of a motorway that was already in place in the GDR began in 1992 . A new route should connect the south-east of Berlin to the motorway network and the Brandenburg area. The route was given the designation 'Bundesautobahn 113'. As a special feature, it was located on the area of the former Berlin Wall and would have reinforced the decades-old separation of the two districts of Neukölln and Altglienicke - this time by building a motorway. That is why the idea arose to use funds from the Ministry of Transport to build a “connecting landscape park” that should also reduce the noise pollution of the residents. On May 23, 2008, the section from the Adlershof junction to the Waltersdorfer Dreieck was opened. At the same time, the planning for the landscape park took place under the direction of the Berlin Senate Department for Urban Development.

layout

In the north of the park there is a small gravel lake on Rudower Straße , followed by remains of the interior wall . Above the highway tunnel Rudower height lies in the western part of the park Rudower height ; To the east of the tunnel, the Senate Department had a meadow orchard and a field of arable flowers created. At the level of the Altglienicke municipal cemetery , the motorway leaves the first tunnel and allows visitors to see the traffic. At this point a pedestrian crossing crosses the motorway. Lavender and sage grow on the adjacent meadows . A few hundred meters further, the motorway runs through a second tunnel. Landscape gardeners created the Glienicker window above it . The up to five meter high embankment is planted with wild vines and allows a view of the pasture and meadow landscape adjoining it to the northwest. There the Massantepfuhl , which had been filled in in the past, was exposed again. In the summer there are water buffalos in the pastures . Their wallows create a habitat for amphibians and dragonflies as well as for "weakly competitive plant species" such as the marsh marigold and the marsh forget-me-not . The southern end is again a meadow orchard.
