State election in Lippe 1876 (autumn)

The state elections in Lippe in 1876 took place in October and November 1876. These were the first elections to the Lippe state parliament , which were carried out according to the electoral law of 1876.

General

In March 1876 a state parliament was elected according to the electoral law of 1836. After the new electoral law had been adopted, there were new elections in the autumn. The elections were held for the second grade on October 26th and for the third grade on October 27th. The runoff election in the seventh constituency of the second class took place on November 10, the runoff election in the fifth constituency of the third class took place on November 1. The first class MPs were elected on October 30th.

21 MPs were elected in three classes of seven MPs each. The first class was made up of the most highly taxed citizens. In the first class, those who paid at least 90 marks in property tax were eligible to vote in subgroup A. This sub-group elected five MPs in two constituencies. Subgroup B comprised those who paid at least 180 marks in income tax and elected two MPs in two constituencies. The second class was made up of taxpayers with property and income tax of at least 36 marks, the third class all other eligible voters. The 2nd and 3rd class voted in seven one-person constituencies each.
