history

As early as 1320, a Hof de Stenbeke was named in the income register of the Herford Abbey on the site of the current estate . He was owed to the aristocratic dynasty and had to deliver two jugs of honey , three rams and four bushels of wheat to the lords of Arnholz as the fief owner every year on August 24th, Bartholomew's Day .

In 1386 Hermann de Arnholte received a domum parvam , that is, a "very small house" in Steinbeck bei der Salze, as a fief.

In 1450 the bailiff Gerd zu Vinnen and Eckendorf acquired the estate for hereditary property. Barthold zu Vinnen was the last of this family; his sons-in-law Heinrich and Ueckermann were heirs to the court when he died in 1603. Simon VI. However, imperial count and sovereign of the County of Lippe-Detmold found her for the sake of peace with 600 thalers and turned the farm into a manorial farm .

The noble gentlemen at Wrede came to Steinbeck as country residents a year before the Thirty Years War . They were tenants subject to the sovereign for over 200 years, but they were always able to pass on their leased property.

In 1674 the annual rent of the no longer insignificant property was 52 thalers and ten groschen. For many years, the city of Salzuflen was allowed to raise this wage from the Rabe de Wrede as 'interest on a capital loaned to the sovereign'.
The von Wredes probably did not live at Gut Steinbeck: In the Wüsten church registers there are no entries about birth, baptism, marriage or death. Heinrich Wilhelm Kuntze, who came from Salzuflen, was in charge of the management of the estate. Several children were born to him and his wife, who were also baptized in deserts.

“Heinrich Wilhelm Kuntze, current steward at Steinbeck and Margrete Elisabeth Grothen weyl. Henrich Alexander Grothen, married daughter of a merchant in Herford. In the afternoon I copulated at noble Guth Steinbeck in the presence of the sexton Schulze at 3-4 o'clock. 2 Thal 24 grosch pr. acadet "

From 1810 to 1858 the aforementioned war and domain councilor Philipp Ferdinand von Hoffmann from Aurich (born 1774 in Detmold and son of the former Lippe Chancellor Ferdinand Bernhard von Hoffmann (1731–1802)) and later his son Ferdinand Herrmann von Hoffmann owned the Guts Steinbeck. After that, a Mr. Busse zu Heerse was the owner for five years. 1864 Good came into possession of Today - the fifth generation - living here family of Lengerke : The from Bremen native Johann Heinrich von Lengerke bought the estate.

Today's buildings

Johann Heinrich von Lengerke had the new manor house built above the original manor between 1867 and 1869 : a sandstone building in Tudor style designed by the Bremen architect Karl Gildemeister . The central point in the building is the hall illuminated from above through a glass dome; the rooms of the house are grouped around them. The dining room is particularly noteworthy: wall panels , stucco ceiling and furniture were specially made for its furnishings.

A few old farm buildings and stables have been preserved from the original manor. These are used today as riding stables.

Former buildings

Mills

The former mill is first mentioned in the purchase agreement from 1654: De Wrede also acquired the mill along with the farm and had a beater and oil mill built next to it .
The tenants and millers of the Steinbecker Mühle have been occupied continuously since 1717; the last tenant of the grain mill was Heinrich Klocke, who was named as the mill tenant as early as 1926.

mausoleum

With the new main building, a mausoleum was also built for the deceased of the family ; around a hundred years later it was torn down and the dead were transferred to the desert cemetery near the church . Remnants of the foundation of the mausoleum can still be found west of the former Steinbeck sand pit, near the Stumpfen Turm .

Landscaped garden

At the same time, Gildemeister designed the landscape garden surrounding the manor house based on English models, which is characterized by its extensive rhododendron population and numerous solitary trees . Several trees, such as Lebanon cedar ( Cedrus libani ), handkerchief tree ( Davidia involucrata ), incense cedar ( Calocedrus decurrens ), Caucasian spruce ( Picea orientalis ), Persian oak ( Quercus macranthera ), black walnut ( Juglans nigra ) and Himalayan cedar ( Cedrus deodara ), were planted and some have been preserved to this day.
