description

The exact age of the Blunt Tower is not known. Presumably it was built in the second half of the 15th century as a guard tower on the Salzufler Landwehr . The tower is within sight of the city of Salzuflen, on a hilltop on a western foothill of the Vierenberg , on a formerly important trade route ( Frankfurter Weg ) towards the Weser . With the help of light and smoke signals, the city could be warned of approaching enemies at an early stage. Possibly the small Herrenburg Gestinghen (one of several spellings) was once located in the place of the tower, which has only been handed down from written sources and is no longer verifiable today. Probably in 1632, during the Thirty Years' War , the tower was destroyed in an attack and has only been in ruins since then.

The round tower, built from rubble stones, has a high entrance, now walled up, and several loopholes . The original height of the tower is estimated at around 10 meters. The still preserved tower ruin has a diameter of about 4.5 m and a height of 5.5 m.
