Farm castle stackage

The so-called Bauernburg Stapelage is located in the Hörste district - Stapelage of the town of Lage in the Lippe district ( Detmold administrative district ) in North Rhine-Westphalia . The building is located in the rectory of the Evangelical Reformed Church in Stapelage and is a listed building .

History and description

The Bauernburg (Fliehburg) was part of the nearby estate Stapelage, which was first mentioned in 1185 as "curtis Stapaluga" together with the Stapelager church. The building was probably built in the late Middle Ages . Wood samples from the roof structure could be dendrochronologically dated to 1531–33. The massive stone work served as a permanent store for food supplies and as a refuge for the residents of the estate in times of war.

The quarry stone building with two floors and a simple saddle roof is still preserved today and has a floor plan of approx. 5.00 mx 6.50 m. The outer walls are provided with small slotted windows. An oven built on the east side dates from the 17th century. The original entrance on the north side of the eaves is walled up. Today's entrance door on the west gable is more recent.
