Larance Marable
LaRance Marable (also Lawrence Marable * 21st May 1929 in Los Angeles , California ; † 4. July 2012 in East Orange , New Jersey ) was an American jazz - drummer .
Live and act
Marable taught herself to play the drums. He began his career as a drummer in the 1950s with various jazz musicians who made stops in Los Angeles, including Charlie Parker , Tal Farlow , Dexter Gordon , Jimmy Giuffre , Hampton Hawes , Herb Geller , Stan Getz , Zoot Sims and Wardell Gray . In 1956 he created the album Tenormen under his own name for the small label Jazz West with James Clay . In the late 1950s and early 1960s he recorded albums with the Montgomery Brothers , Chet Baker , George Shearing , Sonny Stitt , Milt Jackson and various other musicians. In later years he could still be heard on albums by Charlie Shoemake / Harold Land , Herbie Harper / Bill Perkins , Shorty Rogers , Walter Norris , Frank Strazzeri , Ruth Cameron , Conte Candoli and Evan Christopher . In the field of jazz, according to Tom Lord , he was involved in 95 recording sessions between 1951 and 2004, most recently with vocalist Eden Atwood ( This Is Always ).
As a member of Charlie Haden's Quartet West , he also became known to a wider audience.
