Larry Knechtel

Larry Knechtel (born August 4, 1940 in Bell , California , † August 20, 2009 in Yakima , Washington ), actually Lawrence William Knechtel , was a studio musician who worked with The Beach Boys , The Doors and Elvis Presley , among others . He was also a member of the band Bread .

Life

Knechtel became a member of Duane Eddy's backing band , The Rebels , in 1959 . He also worked as a studio musician with Phil Spector , among others . In addition to the piano , he played harmonica , bass and guitar . In 1970 he won a Grammy Award for his arrangement of Bridge over Troubled Water by Simon & Garfunkel . The following year he joined the band Bread. Most recently he worked with music producer Rick Rubin and toured with the Dixie Chicks . In 2007 he was inducted into the Musician's Hall of Fame .

Knechtel was married and had two children.
