Lars Hamann (born April 4, 1989 in Meißen , Dresden district , GDR ) is a former German athlete who specialized in throwing a javelin .

career path

Hamann trained as a medical-technical assistant for radiology , belongs to the sports promotion group of the state police of Saxony and was appointed police chief at the end of January 2016 .

Athletic career

Lars Hamann found his way to sport through an athletics group in elementary school, which he liked so much that he then signed up for a club. In 2003 he joined the D team for the first time , the C team in 2006 and the B team in 2008 .

In 2010 Hamann took 3rd place at the European Winter Throwing Cup in Arles (France) and at the European Police Championships in Athletics in Donetsk (Ukraine).

In 2012, 2013 and 2015 Hamann reached 3rd place at the German Championships . In 2013 he was number 1 on the German best list.

At the World Athletics Championships in Moscow in 2013 and in Beijing in 2015 , he was eliminated from the qualification, as well as at the 2016 European Championships in Amsterdam .

In 2015 Hamann won the IAAF World Challenge Meeting in Rieti and took 3rd place at the IAAF World Challenge Meeting in Beijing . In addition, he became German Police Master.

In 2016 he was number 9 on the world's best list and came 5th at the German championships .

In 2017 Hamann increased his personal best to 86.71 meters in mid-May and was one of four javelin throwers who competed for the three starting places at the World Championships in London with the standard (83.00 m) . In the end, however, Johannes Vetter , Thomas Röhler and Andreas Hofmann were given preference in the nomination .

After persistent injury problems, Hamann ended his competitive sports career in early 2019.

Club affiliations

Lars Hamann started for Dresdner SC in 2003 and was previously at SV Motor Sörnewitz from 1996 to 2002 .
