Lars-Göran Ivarsson (born October 21, 1963 in Västerås ) is a former Swedish ice hockey player and current coach , who most recently worked as an assistant coach at Örebro HK in Svenska Hockeyligan . His son Karl-Anton is also a professional ice hockey player.
Career
player
Lars Ivarsson began his career as an ice hockey player in his hometown in the youth department of Västerås IK . From there he moved to Brynäs IF , for whose professional team he was active from 1984 to 1988 in the Elitserien , the highest Swedish division. The defender then ran for five years for league rivals HV71 , before spending another four years with his hometown club Västerås IK - also in the Elitserien. The 1997/98 season he started at KalPa Kuopio in the Finnish SM-liiga and finished it at Kapfenberger SV in the Austrian ice hockey league . In the 1998/99 season he played for HC Bozen both in the Italian A1 series and in the multinational Alpine league . In the A1 series he was runner-up with Bolzano. After a one-year break, he ran again from 2000 to 2002 for his hometown club Västerås IK before ending his career at the age of 38.
Trainer
Between 2003 and 2006 Ivarsson initially worked as a trainer in the junior division at Västerås IK. In the following four years he worked both as assistant and head coach of the club's professional team in the second-rate HockeyAllsvenskan . In the 2010/11 season he was the head coach of his league rivals IK Oskarshamn behind the gang. During the 2011/12 season he replaced Harald Lückner as head coach at the Swedish second division team Mora IK .
From the 2012/13 season , Ivarsson looked after the Frederikshavn White Hawks from the Danish AL-Bank Ligaen and led the team to the final series of the play-offs, where they were defeated by SønderjyskE Ishockey . The following year the team finished in third place before Ivarsson returned to Sweden in the summer of 2014 and started working for Örebro HK . In the 2014/15 season he was initially the head coach of the U20 youth team in the J20 SuperElit and from the 2015/16 season he held the position of assistant coach for the professional team in the Svenska Hockeyligan .
International
For Sweden Ivarsson took part in the junior division of the U18 European Junior Championships in 1980 and 1981 . In the senior sector, he was in his country's squad at the 1988 Winter Olympics in Calgary . In all three tournaments he and his team won the bronze medal.
