Lauhata is an East Timorese Suco in the administrative office of Bazartete ( Liquiçá municipality ).

Before the 2015 regional reform, Lauhata had an area of ​​20.07 km². Now there are 16.92 km². The Suco is located in the northwest of the administrative office. To the west is the Suco Maumeta , south of the Suco Fatumasi and east of the Suco Motaulun . In the north lies the Sawu Sea . Coming from Maumeta, the rivers Hatunapa and Nunupupolo meet in the west of Lauhata and form the Carbutaeloa , which finally flows further north into the Sawu Sea. Part of the border with Motaulun is the Failebo , which also ends in the Sawu Sea.

The village of Camalehou ( Kamalehou ) lies between Hatunapa and Nunupupolo . To the east of the mouth of the Carbutaeloas is the place Pissu Leten ( Pissu Lete , Pisulete ), while to the west of it is the foothills of the Vila de Liquiçá . Further east is the village of Pissu Craic ( Pisukaraik , Pissucaraik , Pissukaraik ), which is divided into a north and a south part. To the west of the mouth of the Failebo lies the village of Raucassa ( Raukasa , Raucasa , Rauhassa ) and in the south the villages of Caimegulo ( Caimegi Ulu , Kamalehou ), Caimegi , Kumahu and Durubasa . There are primary schools in Raucassa and Pissu Leten.

In the Suco there are the five Aldeias Caimegulo , Camalehou , Pissu Craic , Pissu Leten and Raucassa .

29 km west of Dili are the ruins of Ai Pelo , a Portuguese prison from the 19th century , on the coast in Raucassa . The striking ruins are now a sight for tourists.

The Bubble Beach , on the coast of Lauhata, is a popular diving area. It takes its name from volcanic gases that emerge from underwater.

Residents

The Suco has 3,632 inhabitants (2015), of which 1,853 are men and 1,779 women. The population density is 214.7 inhabitants / km². There are 534 households in the Suco. Almost 77% of the population give Tokodede as their mother tongue. 17% speak Tetum Prasa , just under 4% Mambai and minorities Kemak or Baikeno .

history

In 1889 a customs post was established in Ai Pelo.

At the end of 1979 there was an Indonesian transit camp in Raucassa for East Timorese who were to be relocated by the occupiers for better control.

politics

In the elections of 2004/2005 was José dos Santos Barreto elected Chefe de Suco. In the 2009 elections won Emilio Barreto .
