Cape Canaveral AFS Launch Complex 34 (LC-34) is a disused launch pad at Cape Canaveral Air Force Station on Merritt Island , Cape Canaveral in Florida , USA .

Construction of the launch complex began in June 1959. It was built together with Launch Complex 37 as part of the Apollo program for the launch of the Saturn I and Saturn IB rockets.

Between 1961 and 1968, four Saturn I and three Saturn IB were launched from here. The launch complex was then held ready for a possible launch as part of the Skylab program. However, it was later decided to use the LC-39 launch complex . LC-34 was then decommissioned in November 1971.

On January 27, 1967, the AS-204 mission (later referred to as Apollo 1 ) struck a catastrophe in which space travelers Virgil Grissom , Edward White and Roger Chaffee were killed in a fire. Today a plaque commemorates this catastrophe.

On October 11, 1968, the first manned and final LC-34 mission started with Apollo 7 . This was also the last manned US take-off that did not take place from the LC-39.

On April 16, 1984, LC-34 was declared a National Historic Landmark as part of the Cape Canaveral Air Force Station .

It can be viewed on the Cape Canaveral: Then & Now Tour from the Kennedy Space Center visitor center.
