The Lauter is a stream in the Ostalbkreis in Baden-Württemberg, five kilometers long, which rises on the north eaves of the eastern Swabian Alb and flows into the Rems from the left in Mögglingen .

geography

Loud origin

A spring pond at the source of the Lauter

The Lauter arises about 1.5 km southwest of the center of the Heubach district of Lautern from several karst springs in the Lappertal between Rosenstein in the northwest and Mittelberg in the southeast. The highest rises at almost 620  m above sea level. NN , after about a quarter of a kilometer, all source streams are united and the stream flows northeast towards Heubach-Lautern.

course

Soon an old canal branches off to the left and runs back a quarter of a kilometer further down the valley to the oil mill. After about 1.4 km, the Lauter in southern Lautern takes on its somewhat longer right source branch, the Waschbach , which arises west of Essingen - Lauterburg , and now flows like this in a very precise northward direction through the valley village, the northernmost parts of which already into the The hilly landscape in front of the Albtrauf protrudes. The course of the Dobach , which runs parallel to one another , begins here on the right and the Lauter flows into it from the right after crossing the municipal boundary at the first houses in Mögglingen . A little further and already in the settlement area of the village, another tributary flows from the left below a footbridge between the residential streets An der Lauter left and Im Dobach right, so here the tributary - which comes from a win of the same name - is called Lauter and the Lauter itself is called Dobach . A little later, the unified brook flows next to Oberdorfstraße in a Verdolung, which runs northwest through the village, only opposite the junction of the road in the courtyards of the main road, the brook on its north side for less than 200 m comes back to daylight.

muzzle

The Lauter flows into the Rems

The Lauter then flows from the left and southeast and after 5.1 km run to about 405  m above sea level. NN at the house Bahnhofstrasse 31 in the Rems .

Catchment area

The catchment area of the Lauter covers 10.3 km². It stretches like a spindle between its southernmost point near the Bear Mountain near Bartholomä and the estuary, with a length of 7.4 km and a maximum width of 2.8 km. It is between about 405 and 768.1  m above sea level. NN .

The watershed runs from the mouth south-south-east through the eastern edge of Lautern, climbs the Pfaffenberg ( 683.3  m above sea level ), then follows the Waschbach very closely up the valley on its upper slope edge and reaches a point at 700.5  m above sea level. NN east of Lauterburg at the widest point of the catchment area, up to which the Rems competes north and east . Then it moves south-southwest on the Bärenberg ( 754.6  m above sea level ) and a much smaller hump behind it just west of the road from Bartholomä to Heubach . On this section lies the karstified and dry Alb plateau, which here ultimately drains over the Stubental to the Brenz ; so here the border is part of the main European watershed .

The subsequent western watershed runs to the transmitter on the Utzenberg ( 768.1  m above sea level ) and via the telecommunications tower on the Glasenberg ( 720.7  m above sea level ) to the Rosenstein ( 735.1  m above sea level ). From there it climbs steeply down the Albtrauf and reaches the estuary in Mögglingen in the north. Up until almost the end, the Klotzbach, which reaches the Rems in Böbingen an der Rems , competes here in the west .

The town of Heubach , the communities Essingen and Mögglingen have a share in the catchment area , a tiny one without any settlement belongs to the community Bartholomä .

geology

The course of the Lauter begins in the White Jura . It crosses the fault line of the Swabian Lineament at the valley outlet near Lautern , after which it briefly runs through the iron sandstone layers of the Brown Jura and longer through its Opalinus Clay, to flow into the Brown Jura .

On the slopes of the Rosenstein in the catchment area there are some karst caves in the mass limestone of the Weißjura, including the Finstere Loch near the oil mill and on the northern slope the Große Scheuer , in which both traces of prehistoric settlement were discovered.
