Lawton S. Parker

Lawton Silas Parker (born August 7, 1868 in Fairfield , Michigan , † September 25, 1954 in Pasadena , California ) was an American impressionist painter .

When he was five, Parker and his family moved from Fairfield to Kearney , Nebraska . After finishing school he studied art at the Chicago Art Institute from 1886 . Supported and encouraged by his teachers, Parker moved two years later to Paris to the Académie Carmen and the Académie Julian . There he became a student of Adolphe William Bouguereau and Tony Robert-Fleury with Cecilia Beaux and Louis Paul Dessar . He later returned to New York and joined the Arts Students League there as a student ; his tutors there were William Merritt Chase and James McNeill Whistler . A little later he returned to Paris and was a student of Jean-Léon Gérôme and Jean Paul Laurens at the École des Beaux-Arts .

In 1902 Parker settled in Giverny , where his artist colleagues Alson Clarke , Frederick Carl Frieseke and Guy Rose were already painting " en pleine air ". In 1916, Parker was elected Associate Member ( ANA ) of the National Academy of Design in New York .

Lawton S. Parker died in 1954 at the age of 86.
