history

Remains of a Gallo-Roman settlement point to an early settlement of the area. In the Middle Ages, Le Pont-de-Planches belonged to the Free County of Burgundy and in that part of the Bailliage d'Amont . The area was cleared and made arable in the 12th century by monks from the La Charité monastery. They built a blast furnace on the Romaine in 1310, which was one of the first in the Haute-Saône area and was in operation until the 19th century. The local rule was held by the Lords of Oiselay, who granted the villagers freedom rights in 1436. In 1569, Le Pont-de-Planches was sacked and destroyed by troops from the Duke of Zweibrücken. Together with Franche-Comté , the village finally came to France with the Peace of Nijmegen in 1678.

With effect from December 15, 2015, the former municipalities of Greucourt , Le Pont-de-Planches and Vezet were merged to form Commune nouvelle La Romaine. The municipality of Le Pont-de-Planches belonged to the arrondissement of Vesoul and the canton of Fresne-Saint-Mamès .

Attractions

The church of Le Pont-de-Planches was built at the end of the 19th century. Several industrial buildings have been preserved from the former La Romaine foundry. In the village there is a lavoir (former wash house and cattle trough) and a round fountain (1861) with a high column.

Economy and Infrastructure

In addition to agriculture, the economic life of Le Pont-de-Planches has always been shaped by the foundry. Today there are some local small businesses. In the last few decades the village has transformed into a residential community. Many workers are therefore commuters who work in the larger towns in the area.
