The Leisure World is a cruise ship that in 1970 as Skyward for Norwegian Cruise Line has been put into service.

history

Skyward (1969-1991)

The Leisure World was delivered to the Norwegian Cruise Line as Skyward on December 10, 1969 after being launched on June 28, 1969 in Bremerhaven . The ship sailed under the Norwegian flag with home port Oslo. After her sister ship Starward, she was the second newbuilding for the shipping company. In 1988 the ship sailed under the flag of the Bahamas with home port Nassau.

In 1973 the ship hit the headlines when several passengers fell ill during a cruise due to drinking water contaminated with germs. In 1979 a fire followed in the engine room. The ship had to break off its voyage, the passengers were brought to the sister ship Starward .

Shangri-La World (1991-1992)

In 1991 the ship was sold to Asia and used as Shangri-La World for cruises off Singapore .

Asean World (1992)

In 1992 the ship was renamed Asean World .

Fantasy World (1992-1993)

In the same year the ship was named Fantasy World .

Continental World (1993)

In 1993 the ship was named Continental World .

Leisure World (since 1993)

In 1993 the ship was renamed Leisure World . In 1994 the ship was modernized in Jacksonville . Leisure World has been a casino ship off Singapore for the New Century Cruise Line since 2000 . On board Leisure World there is a karaoke lounge, a mini golf course, a sauna, a shopping arcade, a fitness center and a hair salon.

In 2006 the ship started sailing under the Tuvalu flag with its home port of Funafuti . In 2012 the ship sailed under the flag of Palau . Since 2015 the ship has been sailing under the Panamanian flag with its home port Panama.

In May 2017, a fire broke out on board. The SuperStar Libra helped with the evacuation.

Sister ship

The sister ship , the Aegean Queen built as Starward , sailed for Etstur until 2018 . Both ships were among the oldest active cruise lines in the world.
