Leioa (Spanish: Lejona) is a municipality on the Bay of Biscay in northern Spain's Basque Country . It is located south of the municipalities of Getxo and Berango and borders Erandio to the east and south . Leioa belongs to the metropolitan area of Bilbao and has a population of 31,795 people (as of 2019) in an area of 8.52 square kilometers. The Udondo flows to the east of the municipality .
history
Leioa belonged to the "antiglesia de Erandio" and was founded in 1526. The population grew rapidly in the 1970s.
