Mañaria ( Spanish and Basque ) is a village and a municipality in the Spanish province of Bizkaia of the Basque Autonomous Community in the comarca of Duranguesado . Mañaria has 515 inhabitants (as of January 1, 2019).

Mañaria is located below the Mugarra mountain range west of the Untzillaitz mountain . In the valley floor of the Mañaria river, which flows into the port of Urquiola , it is flanked by the imposing Arrietabaso and the striking Saibigain . The road BI-623, which connects Durango with Vitoria , rises from the port of Urkiola between high limestone walls and passes the Atzarte gorge on the right , before continuing on the old route between Durango and the Meseta . 72.75% of the municipal area is in the Parque Natural de Urkiola , which is adversely affected by the effects of mining. Mañaria borders the following Municipios: in the north with Izurza and Durango, in the west with Dima and in the east with Abadiano .
Prehistoric finds
In 2011, rock carvings from the Paleolithic were discovered in a cave , the age of which is estimated to be 25,000 years.

economy
The rock strata of the Sierras Amboto and Aramotz contain rich ore deposits and promoted mining . Among other things, iron , but also ocher , graphite and marble are mined .
