biography
Lelde Gasūna comes from Sigulda , where she also graduated from high school. She then attended the Latvian Academy of Sports Education (LSPA) in Riga . At first she was trained by her mother Gunta Gasūna.
In February 2007 Gasūna took part in the European Youth Olympic Winter Festival in Jaca , where she finished 31st in slalom. In November 2009 she contested her first FIS race in Sweden . A good year later she made her debut in the World Cup and a little later in the European Cup . At her first world championship in Garmisch , she finished 36th and 58th in slalom and giant slalom. She also took part in the following World Cup in Schladming . After the World Cup she suffered a knee injury, but was able to start training again in the summer and qualified for the Winter Olympics in Sochi . While she didn't finish the giant slalom, she finished 30th in the slalom, her best result at a major event to date. Her third world championship in Vail / Beaver Creek ended with two failures.
More than six years after her World Cup debut in November 2010, she was able to succeed. On January 3, 2017, she reached a second round in the Zagreb slalom for the first time, in which she managed to improve by five places to 22nd place. With this she not only won her first World Cup points, but also surpassed Kristaps Zvejnieks' 26th place in Santa Caterina 2016 and achieved the best result in the history of the Latvian World Cup. After she was only able to classify herself in giant slalom at the World Championships in St. Moritz , she finished the slalom World Cup ranking in 50th place at the end of the season.
After only two World Cup starts in the 2017/18 season , she started at the Winter Olympics in giant slalom and slalom and finished in 43rd and 37th.
