Lennart Axelsson

Lennart Axelsson (born July 11, 1941 in Sweden ) is a Swedish jazz trumpeter based in Hamburg .

Axelsson grew up in a small town in Sweden and started trumpeting as a young school child. After finishing school he went to the Swedish Air Force . There he was assigned to music corps and continued to play cornet . In 1967 he graduated from the Royal College of Music in Stockholm . This was followed by several productions with the Swedish Radio Big Band under the direction of Harry Arnold and Quincy Jones, as well as concerts in Scandinavia.

From 1970 Axelsson played first trumpet with James Last & His Orchestra . Soon afterwards he was also the first trumpeter in the big band of the Swiss radio DRS . In 1985 he moved to Hamburg and switched to the NDR Bigband , where he played first and solo trumpet until March 2005. Since his retirement he has been playing in professional big bands.

Axelsson has played with many jazz and pop greats, including Chet Baker , Quincy Jones , Henry Mancini , Johnny Griffin , Joe Pass , Michael Gibbs , Albert Mangelsdorff , Gil Evans , Sal Nistico , Herb Geller , Nils Landgren , Don Menza , Peter Herbolzheimer , Toots Thielemans and Renato Anselmi .

He wrote the guide Trumpet power. The balance principle , which is aimed at advanced trumpeters.
