Leontodon caucasicus is a plant from the genus Leontodon (dandelion) within the family of Compositae (Asteraceae). It isclosely relatedto the stiff-haired dandelion ( Leontodon hispidus L. ) and is sometimes classified as a synonym under this.

Vegetative characteristics
Leontodon caucasicus is a perennial herbaceous plant that reaches heights of 14 to 50 centimeters. There are numerous strong fiber roots on the reduced rhizome and it is also very rarely creeping. The leaves , arranged in a basal rosette, are 3 to 20 centimeters long and 1 to 2.5, rarely up to 3 centimeters wide, bulged, pinnate and with triangular pointed segments. The upper side of the leaf is smooth, glabrous or with simple hair, sometimes mixed with fork hair. The underside of the leaf is smooth or has long, irregularly distributed hairs or fork hairs on the median vein.
Generative characteristics
The flowering period extends from July to August. The inflorescence stem is smooth, furrowed and somewhat thickened, only slightly hairy under the flower head. The bracts (involucre leaves) are dark green, with whitish or yellowish simple hairs, similar to the upper part of the inflorescence stem. The outer bracts are not hairy. The flowers are bright yellow.
The achenes are dark brown, more or less flattened and a little curved. The pappus is dirty white, sitting with two rows. The outer row is bristly, the inner feathery.
