Leopold Helbich
Leopold Helbich (born May 18, 1926 in Linz ; † April 27, 2004 in Vienna ) was an Austrian master stonemason , industrialist and politician ( ÖVP ).
Life
His educational paths ranged from elementary school ( St. Nikola an der Donau ) through secondary school and grammar school ( Stiftsgymnasium Seitenstetten ) to the federal trade school (1941-1943 and 1946-1948, interrupted by military service and prisoner of war 1943-1946), where he became an engineer for civil engineering. He was married to Burgl Helbich-Poschacher and was the father of Florentine, Anton and Leonhard . Since 1946 he was a member of the Catholic student union KaV Norica Vienna in the ÖCV .
From 1954 Helbich worked as a master stonemason and managing partner of Granitwerke Anton Poschacher and from 1975 also held the position of managing partner of the Poschacher Baustoffhandel GesmbH, which he founded. For decades he also served as the head of the Austrian Association of Stone and Ceramics Industry (from 1965), as Chairman of the Association of Austrian Natural Stone Works and from 1995 as President of the Association of European Building Material Manufacturers ( CEPMC ). The two sons became part of the family business in the 1980s.
politics
Leopold Helbich was district chairman of the Austrian Economic Association of Perg and deputy chairman of the Austrian Economic Association of Upper Austria. He was a member of the Federal Council from November 19, 1955 to December 3, 1962 and from October 25, 1979 to May 18, 1983 (Chairman from November 17, 1961 to December 31, 1961) and from December 14, 1962 to 4 November 1975, and from May 19, 1983 to November 28, 1991 member of the National Council . An offer to the journalist Georg Nowotny, which has been quoted again and again since then, was viewed by him as an attempt at bribery and led to his temporary resignation from federal politics from 1975 to 1979.

Appreciation
In 2006 the Danube bridge Grein, built in 1968, was renamed Ing. Leopold Helbich Bridge .
