Leopold von Dittel

Leopold Ritter von Dittel (born May 29, 1815 in Fulneck , Moravia, † July 28, 1898 in Vienna ) was an Austrian surgeon and urologist.

Life

Leopold von Dittel studied medicine at the University of Vienna and after completing his doctorate in 1840 worked as an assistant in a gymnastic-orthopedic institute, then as a spa doctor in Trenčín-Teplitz and as a general practitioner. In 1848 he gave up his practice. He later became an assistant to Johann von Dumreicher and qualified as a professor for surgery in 1856 .

From 1861 Dittel was the primary surgeon in the surgical department at the General Hospital and was appointed associate professor at the University of Vienna in 1865. In 1880 he refused a full professorship.

In 1975 the Dittelgasse in Vienna- Donaustadt (22nd district) was named after him. His grave is at the Dornbacher Friedhof (Group 2, No. 35).
