Leopold Leberecht Christoph von der Osten (born June 2, 1788 in Witzmitz , † December 10, 1853 in Greifenberg in Pomerania ) was a Prussian major general .

Life

Leopold was a son of August Kurt Christian von der Osten (1748-1820) and his wife Friederike Henriette Dorothea, born von Miltitz (1748-1830). His father was a joke .

Military career

In 1801, Osten joined the "von Bailliodz" cuirassier regiment of the Prussian Army as a Junker and on October 8, 1803, he became a cornet . In the Fourth Coalition War he fell into the surrender of Ratekau and was made inactive. On June 7, 1811, he was given his farewell wearing an old army uniform.

In the run-up to the Wars of Liberation, East returned to the army and was employed on April 6, 1813 with a patent from November 27, 1807 as a second lieutenant in the Pomeranian National Cavalry Regiment. He fought in the battles near Großgörschen , Dennewitz , Leipzig and the battles near Oudenarde, Seweghem, Hoogstaeten and the storming of Arnhem . For Courtray, Osten received the Iron Cross II. Class and was also promoted to Prime Lieutenant on August 16, 1814 .

On February 21, 1815 he was transferred to the Guard Dragoons Regiment and on June 23, 1818 he was appointed Rittmeister and squadron chief. On March 30, 1829, he was promoted to major . Since no position was available, Osten was initially aggregated to the regiment and on February 17, 1834, was assigned as a regular staff officer . He was then commissioned on March 30, 1838 to lead the 2nd Dragoons Regiment and on January 24, 1839, Osten was appointed regimental commander. In this position he was promoted to lieutenant colonel on March 30, 1840 with a patent from April 19, 1840 . On May 16, 1844 he was transferred to the 2nd Cavalry Brigade as commander and on September 2, 1844 with the Order of the Red Eagle III. Excellent with a bow. When he was awarded the Order of St. John , Osten retired on May 21, 1846 as Major General . He died on December 10, 1853 in Greifenberg in Pomerania.

family

Osten married on October 8, 1811 in Rütznow Charlotte Wilhelmine von der Marwitz (1792-1811). She was a daughter of Ludwig von der Marwitz (1760–1845) and Elisabeth Marianne von dem Borne (1762–1849). After the early death of his first wife, Osten married Bernhardine Alexandrine Friederike von der Marwitz (1814–1888) in Kölpin on March 29, 1837. The son Oskar (1850–1876) emerged from the marriage.
