Love on crooked legs is a German love comedy from 1959 with a cute four-legged friend at the center of the action. Directed by Thomas Engel playing Walter Giller and Sonja Ziemann , the (human) lead roles. The story is based on a dog novel by Hans Gruhl .

action

The young Daniel Mogge is an amateur author; none of the numerous novels he has already written have found a publisher, let alone an interested readership. His passion for playing the piano and composition has also not helped him professionally so far. In order to earn at least a small income, Daniel goes from door to door and tries to sell encyclopedias. His girlfriend Rita van Eck, who would like to get married, is the daughter of a music publisher who suspects that the unsuccessful hunger artist could be a talentless dowry hunter. In order to have at least one really loyal friend, Daniel gets himself a crooked-legged dachshund with the pompous name of Blasius from raw brands, and since he doesn't actually have any money for it, this is done in installments. Daniel finally has someone by his side who looks up to him with pride.

Daniel's misery seems to be coming to an end when a new neighbor, Mr Grusius, hears Mogges playing the piano and immediately believes he has discovered a true musical talent. He quickly writes down the notes he has heard, because, according to Grusius, it should be possible to make a real hit. With that he goes to his boss, who is none other than the music publisher van Eck. The publisher believes that arranger Grusius himself is behind the effusions, and the weird clerk leaves him in his belief.

One day, thanks to the idiosyncratic charm of the bow-legged title hero, Mogge met the pretty fashion photographer Eva Gengenbach. Blasius turns out to be a true postillon d'amour and matchmaker, because the two young people fall in love. Daniel is so much in love with the attractive young woman that he dedicates his composition to Eva, which Grusius has “stolen” and which he does not even know that it has long been in circulation. This song is slowly becoming a hit without Daniel's knowledge. When Eva hears "her" melody on the radio for the first time, she reacts indignantly, because she believes that Daniel is nothing more than a braggart, swindler and music thief. She separates from Daniel, but soon everything clears up and they are reconciled again. From now on, things are also improving professionally. Composer Mogge and arranger Grusius will henceforth work together and, as guarantors of hits, will bring a lot of money into the coffers of the music publisher van Eck.

The film service says: "Partly from the dog's point of view, partly from the man's point of view, a story told that is undemanding and naive."
