occupation

Lieber Brad is a Swiss television film by director Lutz Konermann from 2001. The film is about the provincial life of the main character Tina in a Swiss border town on the Rhine, as well as the love life of her big sister Babs and her father Urs.

action

Tina lives her normal life, characterized by arguments with her sister and worries about her single father, who still has no new girlfriend. To get rid of her worries, big and small, she writes letters to her idol Brad Pitt . What Tina doesn't know, however, is that her “oh so good” sister has a relationship with her married German boss. Her father also recently had a friend from Cameroon, the dark-skinned Caroline. However, all affairs and romances come to light at the annual major event in the province, the “fish meal”, and Tina also has her first experiences with the opposite sex.

reception

The program magazine prisma ruled that the film was an “inventory of Swiss provincial life” and “brilliantly staged”. The film gains "even more authenticity" because Swiss German was not dubbed but subtitled in German. TV Spielfilm noted that Dear Brad is a "light-footed dialect comedy with subtle wit".

Awards

All three main actors were nominated for the Swiss Film Prize 2002. While Mathias Gnädinger was left behind, Andrea Guyer and Carol Schuler each won in the Best Actress category . The film was also shown in the competition at the Baden-Baden TV Film Festival .

Locations

The main locations were in Laufenburg AG and Kaisten AG in the canton of Aargau in Switzerland.
