The Liebig Street is on the 1st Viennese district of Inner City . It was named in 1874 after the founder of organic chemistry , the German Justus von Liebig .

Characteristics and course

The short street is in the so-called town hall district, a uniformly planned area on the site of the former parade and parade ground in front of the city gates. This was part of the Josefstädter Glacis . After the city walls were razed and the Vienna Ringstrasse was built, the town hall district was also built. Liebiggasse is located at its northern end parallel to Universitätsstrasse and extends from Reichsratsstrasse and the rear of the main building of the University of Vienna in the east to Landesgerichtsstrasse in the west. The alley is run as a one-way street . The buildings on it are largely historical , many of them belong to the university.

On the corner projections there are two-storey bay windows with caryatid baths. Behind the two entrances on the side facades follow vestibules with black pilasters and Corinthian columns .
