Linn Jørum Sulland (born July 15, 1984 in Oslo ) is a Norwegian handball player .

Career

In the club

Linn Jørum Sulland started playing handball at Korsvoll IL and moved to Stabæk Håndball in 2001 . After the left-hander ran up in the 2001/02 season for Stabæk in the highest Norwegian youth division, she was part of the squad of the women's team of Stabæk from the summer of 2002, which also competed in the highest Norwegian division. In her first season she scored 28 goals in 22 games. In the 2005/06 season she shared the top scorer's crown with Linn-Kristin Riegelhuth Koren , who both scored 159 goals.

In summer 2009 Linn Jørum Sulland moved to league rivals Larvik HK . With Larvik, she won the Norwegian championship in her first season. Furthermore, Linn Jørum Sulland played for the first time with a club in the European Cup. In the following season, she defended the championship with Larvik and also won the EHF Champions League . With her ten goals in the final second leg, she played a decisive role in this success. Four more national championship wins followed in the 2011/12, 2012/13, 2013/14 and 2014/15 seasons. In the 2015/16 season she ran for the Hungarian club Győri ETO KC . In 2016 she won the Hungarian Championship and the Hungarian Cup with Győri ETO KC. She then joined the Norwegian club Vipers Kristiansand . With the Vipers, Sulland was in the final of the EHF Cup 2017/18 , which the Romanian team from SCM Craiova won. Furthermore, she scored the most hits in the EHF Cup with 78 hits. A year later she finished third with the Vipers in the Final Four of the EHF Champions League. With 89 goals, Sulland was the most dangerous player in the EHF Champions League 2018/19 .

In the national team

Linn Jørum Sulland came 14 times for the Norwegian junior selection, with which she won the bronze medal at the 2003 Junior World Championships.

The left-hander made her senior national team debut on March 26, 2004. After the two left-handers Linn-Kristin Riegelhuth Koren and Vigdis Hårsaker were seriously injured in the run-up to the 2005 World Cup , Sulland had the opportunity to demonstrate their skills at a major tournament. In this tournament, Norway finished ninth.

After Sulland did not take part in the European Championship 2006 , she was part of the Norwegian squad, which was runner-up at the 2007 World Cup in France. In 2007 she took part with a Norwegian selection at the Beach Handball European Championship, which ended the tournament with third place. Sulland was the most successful scorer of the tournament with 149 points.

In the following years, Sulland was often not considered in the nominations. She did not take part in the 2008 Olympic Games or the 2009 World Cup. The left-hander was only part of the Norwegian squad at the 2008 European Championship . Norway won the European Championship, with Sulland primarily intervening as a bank player. At the EM 2010 Sulland was not part of the Norwegian squad at the beginning of the tournament and was only nominated in the semifinals. Norway managed to defend their title by winning the final over Sweden.

Linn Jørum Sulland has been one of the main pillars of the Norwegian national team since 2011. At the 2011 World Cup , the Oslo-based woman won the title with Norway and took second place in the top scorer list with 51 goals. In summer 2012 she took part in the Olympic Games in London and won the gold medal with her team on August 11, 2012 . In the final against Montenegro she scored ten goals. At the end of 2012, she took part in the European Championship , which Norway finished with second place. At the 2013 World Cup , she was eliminated with Norway in the quarter-finals. During the tournament she scored 24 goals in seven games. Due to a broken foot, she missed the 2014 European Championship . A year later, Sulland was part of the Norwegian World Cup squad, with which she won her second world title . After Sulland was no longer considered for international matches from June 2016, she moved back to the national team in November 2018. She played for Norway at the 2018 European Championships . During the tournament she scored 20 goals.

Linn Jørum Sulland comes from a family of athletes. Her mother Guri Jørum was in the goal of the Norwegian national handball team 51 times and her father Svein Sulland also played handball, as well as her sister Randi, who also plays handball in the Norwegian top division. Her maternal grandfather, Einar Jørum, was a well-known football official.
