history

middle Ages

The oldest surviving mention of the village - under the name Lingies - comes from 1139, when Pope Innocent III. the Monastery Gengenbach confirmed real estate there. Linx was in the Lichtenau office of the Lichtenberg rule . It was a fiefdom of the Bishop of Strasbourg , with the first loan probably taking place in 1274. In 1335, the middle and younger lines of the House of Lichtenberg divided the country. The office of Lichtenau - and thus Linx - fell to Ludwig III. von Lichtenberg , who founded the younger line of the house. In 1390 the village was pledged to the knight von Blumenau by Heinrich IV von Lichtenberg- Lichtenau , but was later redeemed again.

Anna von Lichtenberg (* 1442; † 1474) was the daughter of Ludwig V von Lichtenberg (* 1417; † 1474), one of two heirs with claims to the rule of Lichtenberg . In 1458 she married Count Philip I the Elder of Hanau-Babenhausen (* 1417, † 1480), who had received a small secondary school from the holdings of the County of Hanau in order to be able to marry her. The county of Hanau-Lichtenberg came into being through the marriage . After the death of the last Lichtenberger, Jakob von Lichtenberg , an uncle of Anna, Philipp I. d. Ä. 1480 half of the Lichtenberg rule. The other half went to his brother-in-law, Simon IV. Wecker von Zweibrücken-Bitsch . The office Lichtenau belonged to the part of Lichtenberg that the descendants of Philipp and Anna inherited.

Early modern age

Count Philip IV of Hanau-Lichtenberg (1514–1590), after taking office in 1538, consistently carried out the Reformation in his county, which now became Lutheran .

Among the numerous wars of the 17th and 18th centuries Linx suffered by its location on the highway (today's federal highway 36 going strong). In 1637, as a result of the Thirty Years' War , the place had only 14 inhabitants.

After the death of the last Hanau count, Johann Reinhard III. , In 1736 the inheritance - and with it the office of Lichtenau with Linx - fell to the son of his only daughter, Charlotte von Hanau-Lichtenberg , Landgrave Ludwig (IX.) Von Hessen-Darmstadt . Until 1745 Linx was the seat of a "Stabhalterei" ( Vogtei ), then a mayor . The hamlet of Hohbühn also belonged to the mayor's office .

Modern times

With the Reichsdeputationshauptschluss , the office and Linx were assigned to the newly formed Electorate of Baden in 1803 . Hohbühn then went up in Linx. When it passed to Baden, Linx had grown to 488 residents. In 1833 the population was 884, but fell to 727 by the turn of the century.

From 1919 to 1930 Linx was under French occupation. A barracks was built for the French military in 1925. The French military was stationed here until the early 1990s , even after the Second World War .

On April 1, 1974, Linx was incorporated into Rheinbischofsheim . On January 1, 1975, Rheinbischofsheim and Freistett were united to Rheinau.
