The monuments of the Lower Bavarian town of Bogen are compiled on this page . This table is a partial list of the list of architectural monuments in Bavaria . The basis is the Bavarian Monument List , which was first drawn up on the basis of the Bavarian Monument Protection Act of October 1, 1973 and has since been managed by the Bavarian State Office for Monument Preservation . Ensembles in arch

Former craftsmen's houses in Bachstrasse

Arch: Bachstrasse 19

File number: E-2-78-118-1

The ensemble comprises a closed group of two-storey former craftsmen's houses, now residential houses, in a side street. These are plastered gable buildings, some with protruding flat gable roofs from the 18th and early 19th centuries.

Bogenberg mountain

File number: E-2-78-118-3

Bogenberg, seen from the Xaver Hafner Bridge

The ensemble encompasses the entire ridge of the Bogenberg within the Bronze Age ramparts with pilgrimage church and Salvatorkirche with hermitage. In the course of its history, the Bogenberg has continuously carried various functions and overlapping meanings:

Center of a prehistoric settlement, pagan place of worship, medieval ruler's seat, Christian pilgrimage site.

The elongated ridge extends parallel to the northern bank of the Danube between the town of Bogen and the former Hutterhof, sloping steeply from the summit south to the river. Given its isolated location - around 120 meters above the Danube - it offers natural protection, it was of specific importance in prehistoric times. Bronze Age ramparts follow settlement from as early as the Neolithic Age: first an oval ring wall in the area of today's pilgrimage church to fortify the mountain peak, which was probably the seat of a prince and thus an early historical political center as well as a pagan place of worship.

In the most recent Bronze Age, the entire Bogenberg was surrounded by a rampart wall, thereby extending its fortification to the entire 900 meter long and 150 meter wide ridge. The arch at the inn, which belongs to the large central wall, was created. The north-facing walls, such as the elongated oval oval above the hermitage, have now also been built. Numerous archaeological finds suggest a lively settlement, during the Celtic and Roman times it is hardly detectable.

In the early Middle Ages (around 900) the Bavarian farmers flew from the invading Hungarians, and from the 11th century onwards the mountain became the seat of the Counts of Bogen . The Bogenberg priory developed from the former castle around 1400 and was occupied by the Oberalteich Benedictine monastery. The old cult shrine was - according to legend since 1104 - covered with Christian meaning and the focus of a Marian pilgrimage. In 1286, 1294 and 1295 there were indulgences for those who visited “Our Lady of God House on the Holy Arch Mountain”.

The pilgrimage was fully developed in the 15th century, and the Bogenberg is still considered a prototype of popular Christian pilgrimage to this day. The dominant building is the late Gothic hall complex of the parish and pilgrimage church of the Holy Cross and Assumption of Mary, an important building of the old Bavarian Gothic, surrounded by the historic, walled cemetery with sacristan's house and Ölberg chapel. To the north is the large rectory complex with the parish garden, former farm buildings and former school.

On the pilgrimage route to Bogen, the historical devotional stalls are lined up directly in front of the entrance to the church and cemetery. Then the Way of the Cross begins, further to the west there is a calvary from 1857. On the eastern ascent to the mountain are two newer building groups, the inn and a property, further east is the Salvator Church from 1463 with a hermitage and a small chapel.

Old town arch

File number: E-2-78-118-2

City square arch

The ensemble encompasses the entire Bogen town square, a street market characteristic of Lower Bavaria , from the Bogenbach bridge to the former district court, now the town hall. Bogen, located on the northern bank of the Danube at the foot of the Bogenberg, first mentioned in the 8th century, has been a market town since the 14th century. The development of the place, which was made a town in 1952, was limited after the transfer of ownership from the Counts of Bogen to the Wittelsbachers in 1242: the dukes promoted the nearby Straubing. Bogen remained important as a customs post and lodging station for the Bogenberg pilgrims and was shaped by retail trade and handicrafts.

The floor plan of the market complex is medieval, the elevation mostly consists of bourgeois gabled houses from the 18th and 19th centuries, with a few in the core dating from the 17th century, the fronts of which join together to form the two walls of the square. The town square stretches in a slight curvature in a length of 400 m to 30 m wide from north to south and, including the adjacent properties, extends over almost the entire historical area of the market town. At the south end of the town square, a gate was formerly formed, at the north end the Bogenbach bridge completed the fortification of the market.

In the south, the district court built in 1900 with its gable crowned by obelisks has taken on this delimiting, urban planning function; in the north, the church's choir, which juts into the space, and the house fronts that come closer together to the north, achieve a spatial closure. In the picture of the town square, Biedermeier gabled houses predominate, exclusively plastered buildings, the gables mostly designed with protective walls. In the northeast, a group of three of deliberately elongated eaves side buildings show the changed style that prevailed after a major fire in 1837 (Stadtplatz 13, 15, 17).

The historical character of the square is partially distorted by improper changes to individual buildings, the commercial building No. 45/47, built around 1975, causes a serious disturbance in the appearance of the square, as does the three-storey building No. 39 from around 1910.

Remarks

  1. This list may not correspond to the current status of the official list of monuments. The latter can be viewed on the Internet as a PDF using the link given under web links and is also mapped in the Bavarian Monument Atlas . Even these representations, although they are updated daily by the Bavarian State Office for Monument Preservation , do not always and everywhere reflect the current status. Therefore, the presence or absence of an object in this list or in the Bavarian Monument Atlas does not guarantee that it is currently a registered monument or not. The Bavarian List of Monuments is also an information directory. The property of a monument - and thus the legal protection - is defined in Art. 1 of the Bavarian Monument Protection Act (BayDSchG) and does not depend on the mapping in the Monument Atlas and the entry in the Bavarian Monument List. Objects that are not listed in the Bavarian Monument List can also be monuments if they meet the criteria according to Art. 1 BayDSchG. Early involvement of the Bavarian State Office for Monument Preservation according to Art. 6 BayDSchG is therefore necessary in all projects.
