List of Praetorian Prefects

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

This list contains the Roman Praetorian prefects from the establishment of the Praetorian Guard by Emperor Augustus in the year 2 BC. Until its dissolution in 312 AD as well as information on the respective terms of office. Originally two Praetorian prefects held office at the same time, later the number fluctuated between a single office holder on the one hand and three or more colleagues on the other.

Unless otherwise noted, the dates given refer to the time after the birth of Christ. Only roughly known start and end dates of the term of office are marked with a (?). More detailed explanations can be found in the articles on the listed persons.
