Spanish savings bank crisis 2010

In the course of the financial crisis from 2007 and the bursting of the Spanish real estate bubble , numerous smaller and larger Spanish savings banks ran into difficulties. A package of measures consisting of state support, forced mergers (e.g. Bankia ) and changes to the Savings Banks Act should now protect them from collapse. On May 9, 2012, Bankia, the largest savings bank in Spain, was completely nationalized .
