List of tributaries of the Elsenz

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The catchment area of the approximately 53 km long Elsenz lies in the Kraichgau and the Kleiner Odenwald and covers - only up to the Meckesheim gauge approx. 13 km before the estuary - 256 km², a total of around 540 km².

Diagram of the major tributaries

The diagram contains all tributaries ≥ 3.0 km in length, from the mouth to the origin.

The Elsenz has

  • a tributary of 20 km in length or more - right: Schwarzbach , 27.6 km
  • three tributaries from 10 to less than 20 km - left: Hilsbach (upper course); right: Berwanger Bach , Lobbach
  • ten tributaries from 5 to less than 10 km - left: 3; right: 7.

It is noticeable that the longer tributaries, with the exception of the Hilsbach (upper course), which has a south-eastern course parallel to the upper course of the Elsenz itself, all flow in from the right. The reason for this is the deep erosion base of the Rhine draining the left-hand competitors . By far the longest tributary Schwarzbach arises far northeast of its mouth very close to the Neckar , which takes in the right-wing competitors. It is almost twice as long as the second longest.

List of tributaries from the origin to the mouth
