The church was first mentioned in a document in 1147. Because of its unique loop rib vault (built around 1520), it is one of the most important late Gothic architectural monuments in Austria. The tower dates from the 2nd half of the 13th century, the choir from the last quarter of the 14th century. The high altar was consecrated in 1897, the statue of the Madonna and Child comes from around 1500. The church burned down several times, the last time the tower burned down in 1880.

The fountain on the market square was made in the 17th century. In 1825 the octagonal fountain was bought by the former Windhaag monastery near Perg. Design of the bowl by the architect Anton Zemann , executed in 1953 by the sculptor Gottfried Pöchinger . The four head reliefs represent the four seasons.

The branch church of Königswiesen was first mentioned in a document in 1434, Romanesque wall remains are assumed to be in the northern and southern nave walls. The choir was built around 1510/20. The current nave of the three-bay and three-aisled church was rebuilt in 1884 in a neo-Gothic style.
