The imposing castle is around 600 m above sea level. A. on a ridge of the Buchberg sloping south-west. At its core it is a Gothic castle that was converted into a Renaissance castle in the 16th century. The medieval castle with a rectangular, multi-storey residential tower (26 × 27 meters) can be seen in the northern part of today's castle. At the beginning of the 14th century, the castle was surrounded by a curtain wall with defensive towers. At the end of the 14th century, a wall 18 meters high, 3 meters thick and 26 meters long followed in the east in order to be better protected against attacks. This wall was rebuilt in the 17th century and has served as the exterior for living quarters ever since. |
