Wartenstein Castle ObjectID : 33280 |

The core of the castle was built in the second half of the 12th century and was expanded into an elongated ring castle in the 13th century. Further modifications took place in the 17th century. After severe devastation by French troops in the coalition wars, Franziska Fürstin Liechtenstein had the castle redesigned in 1873–1879 by the architect Ignaz Bankó in forms of Romantic Historicism. After repeated severe damage in the final phase of the Second World War, Axel Lennart Wenner-Gren acquired the castle and had it repaired for the Wenner-Gren Foundation for Anthropological Research . |
