Liván López Azcuy (born January 4, 1982 in San Juan y Martínez ) is a Cuban wrestler . He won at the Olympic Games 2012 in London , a bronze medal in free style in lightweight .

Career

Livan López Azcuy started wrestling at the age of nine in his hometown of San Juan y Martínez in the province of Pinar del Río and went through the entire state elite sport support system, starting with his admission to the sport special school (EIDE) in the summer of 1993 until completing his sport studies in 2011 and his ongoing membership in the national team. Today he focuses on free style and belongs to the sports club Cerro Pelado Havana . His trainer is Julio Mendieta. At a height of 1.74 meters, he wrestles in the lightweight, the weight class up to 66 kg body weight. His first major international success was in Rionegro ( Colombia ) in April 2011 when he won the Pan American Championship ahead of Teyon Ware from the United States and Elvis Fuentes Blanco from Venezuela . At the 2011 World Cup in Istanbul , he defeated Heinrich Barnes from South Africa , Kim Dae-sung from South Korea , Ichtiyor Nawrusow from Uzbekistan and the silver medalist of the 2008 Olympic Games Andrei Stadnik from Ukraine . In the semifinals he lost to Mehdi Taghavi Kermani from Iran and in the battle for a bronze medal he defeated none other than the 2008 Olympic featherweight champion Mawlet Batirow from Russia . In October 2011, he finally won the Pan American Games in Guadalajara ahead of Pedro Soto Cordero from Puerto Rico , Yoan Blanco Reinoso from Ecuador and Teyon Ware.

In 2012 it was also used at the Olympic Games in London. He started there again in the lightweight and defeated the 2011 world champion Mehdi Taghavi Kermani and thus successfully took revenge for the defeat against this wrestler at the 2011 World Cup. After this fight he lost to the eventual Olympic champion Tatsuhiro Yonemitsu from Japan , but then fought his way into the consolation round with victories over Haislan Garcia Veranes from Canada and Jabrail Hasanow from Azerbaijan another Olympic bronze medal.

He competed again at the 2013 World Cup in Budapest and secured himself there with victories over Bai Tuan Anh, Vietnam, Takahiro Inoue, Japan, Kang Jin-Hyeok, North Korea, Haislan Garcia Veranes, kanda and Gandsorigiin Mandachnaran , Mongolia and a defeat in Final against Dawit Safarjan , Armenia, the silver medal.
