Liza's at The Palace .... is the title of a stage program by the American singer and actress Liza Minnelli . The variety show ran from December 3, 2008 to January 4, 2009 at the Palace Theater on New York's Broadway . Even before it began, Minnelli recorded a double show-cast album of the same name, which was released on February 3, 2009. In November 2009, Liza Minnelli's performance of the show in Las Vegas was broadcast on several regional channels.

The stage show

Liza's at The Palace .... was performed in two acts. Great importance was also attached to Minnelli's favorite musical duo John Kander and Fred Ebb , whose several well-known songs were also included in the show. Was created Liza's at The Palace .... old as a kind of recovery and at the same time honoring vaudeville traditions within the meaning Kay Thompson.

reception

William Ruhlmann, a prominent music critic, says that the title Liza's at The Palace .... sounds like it was a live album, in fact the comment "recorded in Legacy Recording Studios, NYC" surprised him pleasantly. Liza Minnelli, who is over 62 years old, would have done well: Certainly she still shows energy as an entertainer and dancer on stage, but the way to first record the album in a quiet - her somewhat fragile voice controlling - way was better .

The album itself is varied, nostalgic, combines its own signature songs like Maybe This Time with old jazzy, comedic songs like If You Hadn't, But You Did . All in all, it is reminiscent of the great successes of Judy Garland , Liza Minnelli's mother, who had made several guest appearances at the Palace Theater from the 1950s - combined in her song Palace Medley - and of course of old vaudeville traditions in smoky nightclub style Kay Thompson's. Liza Minnelli is in her element here and pays tribute to the "golden age" of the classic entertainment world.

Awards

Liza's at The Palace .... was nominated at the Grammy Awards 2010 in the category "Best Traditional Pop Singing Album".
