Brunswick Railway Company

In March 1870, with effect from January 1, 1869, the Braunschweigische Staatsbahnen became a private company called the Braunschweigische Eisenbahn-Gesellschaft . In the years 1879 to 1882 the Prussian state bought the shares of this company. There were three different types of steam locomotives in their inventory.

Freight tender locomotive

Freight tender locomotive
Number: 8th
Manufacturer: Egestorff
Year of construction (s): 1863-1867
Axis formula : C.
Service mass: 31.2 t
Friction mass: 31.2 t
Driving wheel diameter: 1,181 mm
Cylinder diameter: 381 mm
Piston stroke: 610 mm
Boiler overpressure: 9 bar
Grate area: 1.12 m²
Evaporation heating surface: 70.20 m²

The freight tender locomotive had some design features that were unusual for the time. The feed water tank was housed in containers which were suspended in the frame due to the load distribution . These could hold up to 2.89 m³ of water. They also had a Gooch control and a suspension consisting of only three springs. The vehicle was named Brabant .

Freight support tender locomotive

Friction mass: 40.2 t
Driving wheel diameter: 1,371 mm
Cylinder diameter: 457 mm
Piston stroke: 660 mm
Boiler overpressure: 9 bar
Grate area: 2.08 m²
Evaporation heating surface: 116.60 m²

These are machines of the Behne-Kool type . The vehicles were always equipped with a three-axle support tender.

Passenger locomotive

Express locomotive

Driving wheel diameter: 1,829 mm
Cylinder diameter: 432 mm
Piston stroke: 559 mm
Boiler overpressure: 9 bar
Grate area: 2.08 m²
Evaporation heating surface: 95.00 m²
Tender: 3 T 8
Water supply: 8.0 m³

This locomotive was the first in Germany to have an outer frame with a supported fire box . It was very efficient due to the large grate area. It was retired towards the end of the 19th century . They were equipped with type 3 T 8 tenders .
