The Longford Town Football Club is an established in 1924 Irish football club from the city of Longford . Longford Town played in the lower divisions for the first 60 years after it was founded, but has been a member of the League of Ireland without interruption since 1984 , since its promotion to the top season in 2000, the Premier Division .

history

When the club was founded in 1924, the Bohemians from Dublin were asked for permission to make their colors the club colors, which have remained until today. The first time the club played in the lower divisions, but was able to win the Leinster Junior Cup in 1931 and rise to the Leinster Senior League in 1935 , the strongest league in the Irish Free State below the League of Ireland . In 1937 and 1954 the semi-finals of the Irish Cup could be reached. Through the three cup finals, Longford Town qualified each for the qualifying round for the UEFA Cup , but the club always failed in the first round; 2001/02 against Litex Lovech from Bulgaria , 2004/05 against FC Vaduz from Liechtenstein and 2005/06 against Carmarthen Town from Wales , but succeeded against Carmarthen on July 14, 2005, the first victory in a European competition.
